2009 ROAR Fuel On Road Nationals Race Report
5 out of the top 10 in the A main were running the Murnan RBM3!

    News Content:
This years US National Championship was held by the 8th Racers of Toledo, in Toledo Ohio. This northern part of the United States gave us with perfect racing weather. The morning temperatures were in the 50’s with highs in the 70’s, and low humidity. Great Horsepower weather!

This year ROAR officials would combine 200mm sedan, and 8th scale. I was going to race 8th scale, but due to time constraints my sedan was suffering, so I quit racing the 8th car. Maybe next year ROAR will have independent Nationals for the people that race both classes. Two classes is too much for some people.

I had a base setup on my NT-1 that was good from the Great Lakes Challenge a month ago at this same track. The setup was good, but there were some other cars that were cornering faster than mine in practice. I would change my setup chasing, and end up almost where I started by beginning of qualifying. For NT-1 setup I ended up with the front hinge pins all the way up, and the Rear hinge pins all the way down. This was required with my driving style so the car will not traction roll. I had 45 shore rear tires with 40 shore front to help. With this I could be very aggressive without worrying about grip rolling the car. A lot of cars suffered from traction rolling at this race, even 8th scale cars! That’s how insane the level of traction was.

Qualifying did not go as well as planned for me due to the points system. I had some fast runs, but they did not count well due to the level of competition there. My slowest run netted me a 5th place for the round. I would go faster in times, but not another 5th which would have earned me a place in the final. I would have to bump from first in the semi.

I started the even semifinal on pole. At the start I got a body tucked under the rear wheel. I was in 8th place immediately. Around the first pit stop it would be Tommy Desantis, and myself who had first, and second. After the dust settled I won the semi easily by 3 laps, with Tommy Desantis right behind me. That would earn Tommy a 13th starting position, and myself an 11th starting position in the A main. The 12th, and 14th bump up spots would be filled from the odd semi final.

The A main starting lineup of 14 drivers was set. We had 5 out of 14 drivers running the new Murnan RBM3 .12. Each one performed perfectly. We were able to run longer on a tank of fuel than any of the competition, and gave up power to no one. A great combination.

After the hour long main the results were as follows:

    LeMieux, Paul 1 1 181 60:07.230 18.860 18.918 18.970 19.036 1

I would like to than my team for their great performance. I am proud of you all for making the top 10 at the US National Championship using the new Murnan RBM3 .12 Engine. I know things could have gone better for all of us during the main event. It is very rare that bad luck does not strike in one way or another during an hour long main. I lost a front belt 53 minutes into the main after I started to push the car. It is my own fault, due to lack of changing it all week on this grip level. Here is how the Murnan Team finished.

    Sedan

    4th Bobby Flack
    5th Scotty Gray
    6th Chris Doseck
    8th Tommy Desantis
    10th Uriah Murnan

    8th Scale

Steve Rossi for making the 8th scale A main.

    8th Scale Masters

Paul Becattini for making the A main.

My X Ray NT-1 performed perfectly all week. I could not ask for more out of a car. I have been thrilled with the quality, and performance since switching to it a couple of months ago. Over 80% of the A main drivers were running the X-Ray NT1, and 5 out of the top 10 were running the RBM3. The X-Ray NT-1, and the Murnan RBM3 are a potent combination. During the week I would ask my drivers how their engines were running? It is very satisfying to hear them all say “Perfect”. Thanks for your great driving guys.
